The Arnham Land Progress Aboriginal Coproration and Coca Cola Amatil has award Horn Island Duty Manager, Tea Boyd, the 2020 ALPA Trainee of the year. Tea has been recognised for her incredible dedication to her Retail Training studies completing a Certificate IV in Retail also while expecting her first child.

The 21-year old started working at the store five years ago and was promoted to Duty Manager because of her attention to detail and teamwork. She says she's very proud to receive the national award.

"I feel good and excited and relieved after completing all my certificates and happy to own my own dingy now"

Coca Cola Amatil has kindly donated a Dingy worth 10 thousand dollars to Tea for her hard work and dedication to retail higher education.

"I would like to say a big thank you to Robyn Emery my manager and Jacqui my trainer, my work mates and Coca Cola for sponsoring my prize", said Tea.

And she adds that it wasn't all easy.

"Some of the challenges were trying to work around work and finish my studies and my pregnancy so I was tired all the time. I'm proud of myself and the store management support has helped me. My manager Robyn has supported me from day one."

Store Manager, Robyn Emery, says Tea is an inspiration to all her team members.

"Tea has always shown leadership and motivation skills and I'm thrilled for her accomplishment. She deserves this award because she's been an active duty manager for the last two years. She's taught me things that I was unsure about and we share our knowledge. She managed to keep working her shifts all throughout her first pregnancy and that is a testament to her dedication."

It's the second year in a row that one of Store Manager Robyn Emery's team members has taken out the award. She says it's all about encouragement and making time for studies.

"We're always training and delegating managerial roles to team members, everyday is training and it's just putting that onto paper. I support them day in day out and when I know I have a team member eager to learn you have to take that opportunity and give them and them the things I know and pass that knowledge on, that's what we're about."

"Follow your dreams, never give up and try your best, put in the effort and always come to work".
