Experienced retail executive leader, Christine Hickey, has today joined the ALPA team and will lead our retail division of 29 remote stores and its team members, across the Northern Territory and Queensland.

Originally from the United States, Christine’s career saw her lead operational roles with major retailers such as ALDI, Dollar General, Woolworths and Coles where all these positions had an operational focus, supporting teams and developing future talent.

Christine is also experienced in food service where she’s managed the development and training of store managers and implementing high standards in work, health & safety, and we believe this will translate directly to our team members and ALPA store standards.

ALPA CEO Alastair King says we are very excited to have Christine join our leadership team.

“Christine has extensive senior management experience across retail and food service and will bring an exciting leadership dynamic to our Retail Division and Executive team. Christine is very focused on retail operations and developing people as she takes the team on the next phase of our retail journey.”

“We hope that Christine will enjoy the whole of business diversity that ALPA offers and the opportunity to work cross-culturally with Australia’s first nations people while experiencing the beauty, opportunities and challenges of some of the most remote parts of the Country”, says Mr King.

Christine Hickey is equally excited to join the team and importantly learn about our communities and culture and says,

“The opportunity to learn about the Aboriginal culture whilst being able to use my skills to help drive a business forward and make a difference is a win/win. I am a naturally curious person who enjoys learning and immersing myself in different cultures and cannot wait to meet the teams and communities in which ALPA serves.”

Ms Hickey says she is up for the challenge despite not having worked in remote communities and cannot wait to join the team.

“Being part of a team that values people and has a mission to 'make a difference every day' is something that is aligned to my personal values and leadership style. The choice was easy. I think the strength that I can bring to ALPA is my ability to engage with teams and create a ‘team mentality.  I believe that you can break through language barriers if you have leaders who genuinely care about their teams and each other.”

ALPA welcomes Ms Hickey’s appointment and we look forward to the positive changes she’ll bring with her dynamic work history.
