Our Story Meet the Directors Micky Wunungmurra “ALPA has grown steadily by following sound cultural foundation principles and by maintaining respectful relationships with all sectors, including government.” Micky Wunungmurra is a Yolŋu man and Senior Leader of the Wunungmurra Clan Nation from Arnhem Bay in North East Arnhem Land. He was raised and educated in Numbulwar and Galiwin’ku before moving to Gapuwiyak in the early 1970s when it was established. Initially, he undertook an apprenticeship as a mechanic (working in the power station) before moving to the Council where he worked as Acting Clark for 5 years. Micky moved to Sydney in the mid-1980s for a few years and worked in an Indigenous Arts Organisation, before moving back to Gapuwiyak and becoming an adult literacy & numeracy teacher at the school in 1989. Micky has been the Chairman of Traditional Credit Union since its inception in 1995 and is also the current Chairman of the Uniting Church’s Northern Synod. Micky joined the ALPA Board in 2000 as a non-executive Director and became Deputy Chair of the Board in 2001. Micky is also the Chairman of ALPA’s Bukmak Constructions, Rulku Enterprises, Dinybulu and Regional Services. Micky’s passion is working to ensure ALPA’s businesses are strong and sustainable, and creating real jobs for local people. He works closely with management in key stakeholder meetings, representing the Board. Micky is married to Linda Guyula and has 10 adult children and 13 grandchildren. Manage Cookie Preferences
