Who we are

Bukmak means 'everybody' in Yolngu Matha and it's our vision to build a sustainable, financially viable and successful construction business for our people.

We commit to the best industry practice to achieve targets, on time and on budget. Everything we do is to provide jobs and skills to our team members in Arnhem Land and through continued works we aim to create economic independence in community.

Our vision is to create an environment where Yolngu team members wanting to further their trade skills and education can be facilitated through qualified supervisor/mentoring programs on country.

These trades and skills will leave a legacy to pass on to younger generations and build a self reliant community to service construction needs.

We aim to expand our business beyond Arnhemland and be industry leaders in Australia's remote construction business.

Our History

Bukmak Constructions was incorporated in 2017 as a subsidiary of ALPA.. Our journey began as a woodwork shed in Milingimbi called 'Mayku'. The ALPA board quickly identified the need for construction-related works in East Arnhem Land and supported the creation of a bonafide construction business.

Initially, Bukmak Constructions was responsible for small maintenance and repairs to Shire Council housing and the Board saw a need to expand our skillset in labour hire. It was our plan to resurrect trade skills that we saw in the community in the 1960s where Yolngu people were competent in Construction related trades.

With ALPA's investment into the company, Bukmak Constructions was able to increase its capabilities, provide more local jobs, and provide a cost-effective alternative to the outsourcing of delivering building works within remote communities.

We now have a proven track record of delivering major Government contracts such as new housing builds, housing upgrades, and associated maintenance works to community housing.
