Incorporated in January 2020, the AABC has recently turned 1 year old and will hold its first AGM this year.

The need to create a united voice for commercial Aboriginal-owned businesses across Arnhem Land was realised 1-year ago after the Arnhem Aboriginal Business Council (AABC) was incorporated by 6 founding members. The ultimate goal of the AABC is to be a key influencer and advocate to Government, Industry, and advisory bodies on matters relating to Indigenous Business in the greater Arnhem Land/ Groote Eylandt region.

Founding  members include;

• The Arnhem Land Progress Aboriginal Corporation (ALPA)
• Rirratjingu Aboriginal Corporation
• YBE Pty Ltd
• Gumatj Corporation
• Aminjarrinja Enterprises
• Groote Eylandt and Bickerton Island Enterprises (GEBIE)

AABC's first meeting of 2021 took place in Darwin's East Arm last week where members were able to address several Northern Territory Government Senior representatives about the need for more business to be awarded to 100% Aboriginal-owned businesses in our region to create more employment and training opportunities for local people. 

The members also discussed other challenges to operating successful businesses in our remote communities including reliable air and telecommunications services. The members have undertaken to engage with key stakeholders to work together to improve this important area.

AABC's inaugural AGM will be held in April  this year and we encourage other wholly Aboriginal-owned businesses to seek membership with us.
