Work with us to create a better future in our communities

In November 1996, The Arnhem Land Progress Aboriginal Corporation welcomed Andrew Prigmore, an excited and enthusiastic manager into the remote retail management team. No one thought that 25 years on, ALPA would be celebrating Andrew’s 25 year work anniversary.

It’s been a tremendous journey that started in Ramingining and continues today in the Cape York community of Aurukun. Whilst there has been good days and bad days, Andrew has an amazing ability to reset and start each day afresh. The energy and enthusiasm seen on day one can still be seen today. He is certainly known for his wheeling and dealing with suppliers and providing great support and care for his team in each community he has worked in.

His favourite memory is attending the Morning Star Ceremony in Milingimbi which only happens every ten years. During the Morning Star Ceremony, the Aboriginal people in north-eastern Arnhem Land perform morning star ceremonies to ensure that the deceased travel safely to the Land of the Dead. In the performance of the ceremony the Aborigines use a large pole decorated with feathered strings and a ball or bunches of seagull feathers. The ball represents the Morning Star.

There is no sign of Andrew slowing down.

We thank him for his fabulous commitment and loyalty over the last two and a half decades.
