Island & Cape operates retail stores in Far North Queensland and the Torres Strait Islands. With a focus on Health & Nutrition and local employment. We are committed to the long term support and provision of quality retail services to our communities. 

Island & Cape profits stay in Queensland, just like ALPA profits stay in the Northern Territory. Island & Cape is a benevolent organisation. Income generated is spent maintaining and improving store infrastructure to better serve our customers. Island & Cape income is also used to support community events and provide employment and training opportunities.

With over 40 years of experience in remote retail, Island & Cape offers these communities and Islands a great range of groceries, dairy, meat, fresh fruit and vegetables, general merchandise and clothing. With sophisticated systems and procedures, Island & Cape run successful remote stores with the assistance of the latest technology. Island & Cape can also offer our experience to other communities, from IT support, to management relief, operational support, mentoring, and training. Island & Cape is financially independent and is not reliant on external funding or subsidies. This allows the company to determine its own direction and development.

We also offer Certified Retail Training to all our employees.

Island & Cape History

Island & Cape was founded in 2003 and acquired by ALPA in 2014 from a family-owned business sharing similar values. The ALPA Board was excited to be able to work with Aboriginal and Torres Strait people in Far North Queensland and form a commercial relationship to create a positive contribution to the social and economic development of more remote communities while leading the way in providing quality retail services, and improved training and nutrition policies.
