With over 40 years of experience in remote retail, Island & Cape offers these communities and Islands a great range of groceries, dairy, meat, fresh fruit and vegetables, general merchandise and clothing. With sophisticated systems and procedures, Island & Cape run successful remote stores with the assistance of the latest technology. Island & Cape can also offer our experience to other communities, from IT support, to management relief, operational support, mentoring, and training. Island & Cape is financially independent and is not reliant on external funding or subsidies. This allows the company to determine its own direction and development.

Island & Cape stores

Our Island and Cape stores are located throughout tropical North Queensland, Cape York and the Torres Strait Islands. Covering a vast area food and supplies are shipped out weekly via barge, road and air freight. ALPA extends our Health and Nutrition Strategy to our Island and Cape Stores ensuring the freshest produce reaches our satisfied customers.

Our Member Stores are 100% owned and operated by ALPA and create surplus to be reinvested back into our communities.
Community Development Program

The Community Development Program is a remote employment and community development program. CDP supports job seekers in remote Australian communities to build work‐like skills, address employment barriers and contribute to their communities through a range of high quality activities.

Our Operational footprint cover 1.2 million square kilometres.

Our history

We have come a long way since 1972 – from small, counter sales stores in tin sheds, to full self-service, air-conditioned stores offering an extensive range of quality goods in remote communities.
