Our Story Our History Our Story The Arnhem Land Progress Aboriginal Corporation (ALPA) is a multi-sector not-for-profit organisation operating in the Northern Territory and Far North Queensland. We believe in creating equal opportunities and economic independence for First Nations people. This is driven through employment, training, enterprises, community services and advocacy on issues that matter most to First Nations communities. Founded in 1972 as a co-operative of community stores, ALPA has grown exponentially over its 53-year journey. Today we proudly stand as the largest Indigenous corporation in Australia through our diverse range of commercial and non-commercial activities. Unity through enterprise ALPA’s vision of “unity through enterprise” reflects the power of collaboration between Indigenous and non-Indigenous people, working together to create lasting change. This vision is built on shared effort, respect and a commitment to strengthening communities. It’s about combining knowledge to build sustainable futures while honouring culture, traditions and the self-determination of First Nations people. Reach and impact ALPA operate in 26 locations across the Northern Territory and Far North Queensland. We have a team of over 1400 across the group, including 80% First Nations employees. As a not-for-profit organisation, we reinvest our surplus back into our member communities through our Community Care Program, supporting sustainable economic growth. In an impactful 2023/24 financial year, we reinvested $44 million into our member communities through real wages, capital investment, repairs, maintenance, community care programs and sponsorships. Our History ALPA's story started back in 1972 as a small community store in East Arnhem Land. Today, ALPA proudly delivers a dynamic range of services across the NT and QLD.
