Bukmak Constructions is proud to be approaching a major milestone in March 2026, when the team will hand over the final new home in Galiwin’ku to a local family. This handover marks the completion of a significant 87‑house construction program, delivered between 2020 and 2026 under contract with the Northern Territory Government.

This long-running housing program has not only improved access to safe, modern homes for families in Galiwin’ku, it has also created meaningful, lasting opportunities for local employment and skill development. The extended nature of the program has allowed community members to:

  • Obtain and retain lifelong skills
  • Strengthen English language, literacy, digital literacy and numeracy
  • Successfully complete nationally recognised Certificate-level qualifications in construction - Certificate II in Indigenous Housing Repairs & Maintenance
  • Successfully obtain Work Safely at Heights and Plant & Equipment operational licences
  • Gain on‑the‑job experience in a stable and supportive environment

Throughout the program, Bukmak Constructions delivered a variety of housing designs tailored to the needs of families in Galiwin’ku. These included:

  • 3, 4 and 5‑bedroom homes
  • Higher‑density duplexes to support population needs and land availability
  • Disability-accessible features and internal modifications where required

Each home has been constructed to support comfort, safety, and long-term durability in remote and tropical conditions.

A new home marks a new beginning, and ALPA has been proud to support families at handover by providing each household with a welcome hamper of essential items—a practical and heartfelt way of helping families stock their new pantry and settle into their home. This small gesture reflects ALPA’s ongoing commitment to strengthening community wellbeing and celebrating important milestones alongside the families we serve.

Bukmak Constructions remains committed to investing in local capability and are excited about the ongoing rolling program of new homes over the next 10-years, ensuring continued employment, training, and life-skill development for Yolngu workers.
