In a proud stride towards career advancement, 7 Yolŋu staff members in Galiwin'ku have stepped into the classroom on-site to study for their Certificate II in Housing Repairs and Maintenance. More than just textbooks and tools, this training is about setting local workers up for long-term success in the construction industry.

Our team are currently working on the Northern Territory Government (NTG) 87 house project in Galiwin'ku. This certificate sets participants up for ongoing employment, opening doors to future construction opportunities.

Supported by the Aboriginal Responsive Skilling Grant (ARSG), the course includes 7 core competency units and 4 electives. It blends face-to-face training with real-world work experience, allowing participants to contribute directly to vital community housing projects.

Before commencing the program, all participants completed the Indigenous Skills and Employment Program (ISEP), enhancing their language, literacy, and numeracy (LLN) skills with support from our ALPA Training team. Their successful completion at Level 2 has improved confidence and communication skills in the classroom and beyond.

For the Yolŋu team in Galiwin'ku, completion of this certificate program is a powerful step towards building and retaining skills for ongoing employment, independence and strong futures.
