ALPA recently hosted an engaging carpentry course in Galiwn’ku, led by Swinburne University, as part of the Community Development Program (CDP). This course gave participants a fantastic mix of hands-on experience and resulted in some impressive final products.

Run across three weeks, the course incorporated theory within the practical learnings.

During the first week, the ḏirramu (men) constructed picnic tables. The following week, they assembled coffee tables and storage boxes. In the final week, they demonstrated their new skills by building bed frames.

The entire journey was a testament to their hard work and dedication, transforming raw materials into functional creations.

Christopher (pictured below), a quiet achiever, took on the challenge with determination and skill, producing some outstanding pieces of furniture. When asked how he was enjoying the course, he didn't say much, but his smile and nod spoke volumes about his satisfaction and pride in his work.

ALPA is proud of the achievements of all the participants and looks forward to seeing more carpentry projects in the future!
