Our Story ALPA Board Don Wininba Deputy Chairperson “I’m excited to teach young people about ceremony, music and culture, and help them go the right way”. Don Wininba has a long history of contributing to Galiwin’ku and broader East Arnhem Land. He’s gained diverse experience through a range of roles including building, supervising a team of men in construction, working for the shire and as a night patrol coordinator. Director Wininba talks about the intelligence and knowledge of the Yolŋu people, emphasising their deep connection to the land. He explains that while Yolŋu might not go to university, they have huge amount of knowledge, especially when it comes to hunting, interacting with their environment, and learning from the land. "Many people in our community might not go to university, but we Yolŋu have our own ways of learning and education systems. Being a cultural leader is a big commitment, and it can be hard to wear both hats - cultural leader, and business leader. Being on the ALPA board gives me and the other directors an opportunity to lead a strong community-owned business while staying connected to culture." Manage Cookie Preferences
